Before a single effect lands. 
Before they trust you.
Before they care. 

It’s where you establish credibility, connect with the audience, and make it clear they’re in good hands. But for many magicians, choosing (and refining) an opener is one of the hardest parts of building a show.

Most magicians choose an opener that’s “good enough.” Few build one that locks in attention, establishes authority, and makes the audience lean forward.

How do you get their attention, how do you hold their attention, how do you amaze and entertain them all at the same time?  What should you open with? Why does one piece work better than another? How do you create something that’s engaging, clear, and sets up the rest of your act?

This workshop focuses on those questions.

In Bill Abbott’s Opener Workshop, you’ll take a closer look at what makes an opener effective and how to apply those ideas to your own material. The goal is simple: help you build an opener that works reliably in real performance situations.

You’ll walk away with practical insights, clearer structure, and specific adjustments you can make right away. Bill will perform his own personal openers for close-up, parlor and stage and analyze the reasons why they play so well. Bill will share openers for family audiences, adult audiences as well as openers for both magicians and mentalists.

Part of the workshop includes live coaching, where volunteers can share their current opener and receive focused, constructive and personal feedback. So sign up, bring your opener(s) or just yourself to create the BEST first impression for your audiences.
